I Want to Be the Next Design Star

Oooo, I just love a challenge. And one that involves a sketch and prizes....well, that really makes me happy! Here's my entry for week one. I was inspired by the bright colors of the photos and the paper. My toddler takes a tour around my mom's yard about once a week. She totes him around, telling him about the flowers and letting him touch everything. He just loves his Nana!

Happy Scrappin',

Goodbye March

Hello April. This whole month I've been designing layouts based on Pam's sketches over at Sassy Girl Scraps. Here's my last layout, entitled Wearing of the Green. Can't wait to meet next month's artist and see all her scrappy goodness!

That little red-headed boy was so funny with those big ole St. Paddy's Day sunglasses. He would not, however, wear the headband with the antennae on top. He pitched an all-out fit. Which as any good scrapper mama would, I photographed as well.

Laissez Les Bontemps Roulez!

As they say here in Louisiana, "Let the good times roll!" And so they did back on February 21 at the Alexandria Mardi Gras Association's Children's Parade. My eight-year-old son and I had a great time riding on the float, dancing to the music, and throwing 15 gross beads. He took that lovely photo of me. Practice makes perfect, right?

I was so excited to get to scrapbook in pink! That doesn't happen very often in a household with a husband, two sons, and even a male cat. The sketch is by Pam over at Sassy Girl Scraps; isn't she good?

Happy Scrappin',

A Good Life

It's Saturday night (well, Sunday morning by now!), and I'm scrapbooking and talking on speaker phone with my bff. How fun! This is my layout for 52 Sketches #11. I LOVE that cat. How happy is he to get all that attention? It's a good life, indeed.

P.S. Go check out my third layout for Sassy Girl Scraps. The sketch is super cute!

P.S.S. Also, check me out at Creative Scrappers. I'm the Guest Designer for the week. Another fabola sketch!

2 Sweet Boys

Ta Daa--Here's my February layout for Treasured Memories' Design Team. For this assignment, we were given patterned paper from one line with coordinating embellishments. The instructions were to use at least four pieces of patterned paper, most of the embellishments, and four techniques.

I used Jenni Bowlin's Farmer's Wife paper, chipboard buttons, journaling cards, pearl flowers, rhinestone buttons, alphabet cards, and mini alphas. [I even used the packaging from the buttons and flowers as part of the layering!]

Techniques include crackle paint, distressing, layering, hand stitching, photo collage, and handmade flowers.

At our meeting tomorrow night, we will be working in groups to create layouts with the new products. Kaylyn and I will be working with My Little Shoebox. LOVE it! Hope you enjoy all the new layouts hanging in the store.

Design Team Bio

1. Tell us about yourself. I am a former teacher turned stay-at-home mom to two boys, ages 8 and 1. While I'm at home scrapbooking and chauffering kids, my wonderful husband of 12 years is working in the oilfield in Alaska.

2. What is your scrapbooking style? Hmmm...I'm not exactly sure. A little clean and linear, a little shabby, but mostly eclectic.

3. How long have you been scrapbooking? Since 2001 when my cousin invited me to a Creative Memories crop.

4. Who do you scrapbook? Mostly my boys, but also family holidays and vacations.

5. Name your top 3 tools. My Tim Holtz distresser, my circle cutter, and my laptop.

6. How are you inspired to get started on a layout? The colors in a picture usually.

7. Do you have any great tips to share? Find a style/layout that you like and rework it each time you scrapbook, using new products and techniques. That way you stay in your comfort zone while still incorporating new things.

8. What are your favorite 3 embellishments? I love stick pins, Thickers, and tags.

9. What is your favorite paper line? Right this minute--Sassafras Lass. (Recently--October Afternoon and Cosmo Cricket.)

10. What is your favorite way to journal? Sadly, I don't journal much these days. I need to get back to it. I like journal strips because they're so versatile and easy to place.

Sketch #10 @ 52 Sketches

I just love these photos of my youngest trying to put on his brother's baseball helmet. Backwards, of course! Then he tried to lug the bat bag around the yard....only made it a couple of feet. He so badly wanted to join in the practice between my oldest and their dad. Don't the younger siblings grow up so fast?

[It's baseball season already. We're not even done with soccer. Aahhhh.....]

Best Blog Comments Award

Thanks, Amy, for such a sweet award! And what an important one, too. Don't we just love all the supportive comments from our fellow bloggers? It just makes my day when someone leaves a kind word about my scrapbooking or my children. It's just as fun to get to leave comments, too.

I pass this award on to Frances at Forever and a Year, Pam at Sassy Girl Scraps, Rochelle at Rochelle's World, Kim at Scraps of Life, and Stacey at It's Just Paper.

Pass it on, ladies, and keep on blogging!

Oh Scrappy Day!

My friend Frances and I had another Friday night crop--in person this time! I completed two layouts, one for Creative Scrappers and the other for Inspired Blueprints. I love all the stitching on both of these layouts. There is something so relaxing about hand-stitching a layout.

My second page at Sassy Girl Scraps will be up later today, too. It's another great sketch by Pam. Go take a peek and leave me a comment!

Sassy Girl Scraps Scrap Artist of the Month

Pam, Sassy Girl herself, invited me to fill in as March's Scrap Artist of the Month at her blog. Well, of course, I jumped on the chance, seeing as I am hooked on sketches. Let me tell you, I'm sure glad I did because her sketches are fab-u-lous! I'll be doing one for the next four weeks. Check out her blog; it's great.

Here's my first one: Snack Time, featuring my toddler scarfing down some Cheezits on the jungle gym. My goodness he looks a lot older than one here! Time sure flies.

I love these patterned papers by Prima and My Little Shoebox. And, I junked it up good with some Prima flowers, Maya Road chipboard, Teresa Collins transparencies, and American Crafts arrows. One of my favorite parts of the layout is the chain from the chipboard key chain. Fun! Fun!

Grow Together

Yes, it's another layout of my two boys outside at their grandparents' house back in January. I just can't get enough of those pictures. The sun, their sweet smiles, the trees, the blue sky. MMM...makes for some good scrapbook inspiration!

The layout is based on the Creative Scrappers' sketch for the April guest designer contest. And, the papers are a random mix of Pink Paislee, Sassafras, and Cosmo. Once again, I've used stick pins, Maya Road and Chloe's Closet. I think I could put them on every layout....come to think of it, I may have lately!

I Went Sketchless!

I actually designed my own page without using a sketch! I'm sure you can see elements from several recent sketches I've used though. For instance, the circle. My favorite part of the page is the Maya Road chipboard mini trees. So much so, that I felt the need to use five of them. They're just so cute!

UPDATE: The Scrapbook Muse is really on my side this week. This page found its way into Two Peas Top Ten, mostly at around number 4 and 5. Woohoooo!
