Snow Cold

ScrapRoom's January kit will be revealed sometime today, and boy is it a good one.  For my sneak layout, I got to use Little Yellow Bicycle's Winterings.  LOVE the blues, browns, and creams.  So pretty!

Snow Cold

Since the embellishments in the kit were all snow related, I had to dig deep in my picture stash for this layout.  We've only had snow twice in the last ten years and those pictures were already scrapped.  I found a cute picture of my little guy all bundled up.  It was his blue eyes that really made me pick this one though.  Despite the red in his jacket, I like how it looks with the papers.

Burlap!  How awesome that LYB included bits of burlap in their embellishments.  Too cute!  All that you see in that little cluster came in my kit.

I grabbed some Thickers from my stash to finish off my title area.  I couldn't believe how well they worked on this page.  Every time that happens, I think to myself, "See, you do need all 1,057 packs of sticker letters."  Not quite that many.  But almost.

I hope you have a Happy New Year!  I'll see you in 2013 with some more January projects for the ScrapRoom.

Project Life: Renewed and Recommitted

About this time last year, I received my Project Life Amber Edition kit in the mail.  As soon as January started, I jumped right in snapping pictures and creating weekly spreads.  And then I shared them online and with my family and friends.  Here's a couple of spreads from way back when.

Week Two

Week Three

And then other scrappy obligations started piling up, and I just couldn't keep up.  I set Project Life aside unsure of where I would go with it.  I thought maybe I'd just restart it in 2013.  After going back to teaching in August, I found that I was scrapbooking even less so the simplicity of Project Life started calling to me again.  The idea of fewer products and albums and layouts stacking up was exactly the jumpstart that I needed.

And why ditch the whole project just because I'm so behind?  I've always been behind in scrapping my pictures, so why should Project Life be any different.  Simple thought, but for some reason . . . enlightening.  I decided that I would continue with my 2012 album right from where I left off.  I went to Pinterest for some inspiration and jumped right back in.

Week Four

Since this will now be my main form of scrapbooking, I decided to venture away from the Amber Core Kit that I bought last year and use up some of those scrapping supplies that have been piling up for a while.  So excited about that part!  For this one, I used My Mind's Eye Kraft Funday.  It had all the colors in my photos.

Those chipboard alphas are so old.  Pink Paislee Weathered Wood 365 Degrees.  Love them!!!

Ok, I think I've used that maple leaf punch like twice in the ten years that I've owned it.  If it weren't such a small punch, I probably would've gotten rid of it long ago.  Glad I didn't.

This 6x4 slot might just be my favorite.  I used my Silhouette Cameo (an awesome new toy I got for Christmas) to cut the shape out of butter colored cardstock and then backed it with patterned paper.  So fun!  I've got a slew of new cuts just waiting to be used in my Project Life album.

I am renewed and recommitted to finishing my 2012 Project Life album.  Right from where I am.  And since I'm almost a year behind, all the upcoming 2013 blog posts and pins will just encourage me to keep going.

What about you?  Did you finish your PL 2012?  Did you fizzle?  Are you going to pick it back up?  Did you do a major catch up?  Share your tips and tricks.  I'd love to know how you've kept up or caught up.

Happy Scrappin'!!

Teaching Blog Update

I fixed the settings on my teaching blog (Life Between Summers) so that it is not invite only.  For those of you that couldn't follow before, I hope you'll pop back over and see what's going on.  And since I was already tinkering, I decided to give it an update.  The template I had uploaded before was busy, busy.  I needed clean lines and vibrant colors, so I made a new header.  Fun stuff!

If you know of any teaching blogs that I need to check out, please let me know.  I'm always on the hunt for new ideas to improve my teaching.  Thanks!

Check Out My Other Blog

As you may have noticed, I don't post here very often anymore.  And as you may know, it's because I've gone back to teaching full time.  I've started a new teaching blog called Life Between Summers.  Just wanted to invite you over.  If you have any teacher friends, I'd love for them to stop by.  And if you have a teaching blog, please share.

Christmas Card Photo Shoot Outtakes

Today was the day I planned to get the dreaded annual Christmas Card Photo Shoot done.  So, I dressed up the kids, grabbed some props, and headed to the backyard.  There wasn't much thought or planning that went into it because we have been so busy for the last couple of months.  I crossed my fingers, made a couple of bribes, and started snapping like crazy.  Funny thing is, I think I like the outtakes more than the final shot.

Just so ya know . . . there is not a picture of my kids in sock monkey Santa hats on my card.  I grabbed those in a half-ditch effort to coordinate my kids' outfits and actually plan the look.  I knew as soon as they put them on that I needed to go to plan B.  The kraft letters on my mantel.  Just goes to show you that sometimes winging it is better.

12 Days Mini Album Class

Today I have my first Stampin' Up project to share with you.  It is a sweet 6" x 6" mini album featuring the Merry Moments paper line and the 25 & Counting stamp set (which is a steal right now at $16.98).

My Stampin' Up friend and I are teaching this as a class in December, but I am offering it up to all my online friends as a PDF file FREE with a $50 purchase from my website HERE.

12 Days Mini Album

The cover was made from the chipboard backing of a paper pad and then covered with a Lacy Brocade embossed strip of the olive paper from the kit.  The label sticker is a perfect title spot for the album.  Your title could be 12 Days of Christmas, 12 Cookies of Christmas, 12 Gifts of Christmas, 12 Ornaments of 2012, 12 Years with Santa, 12 Cards of 2012, or any other theme you can associate with the holidays.  You get to decide your theme.

I used the Ornament Punch and Merry Moments border stickers to create the ornaments dangling from the binder rings.  So fun and easy!

The inside pages are created with 6" x 6" squares of the cardstock from the kit:  2 red, 1 green, 1 gray, and 1 cream.  I used the stickers to create tabs along the tops of the pages.  Here's a sampling of the inside pages.

This album is so fun and festive, but it didn't take a lot of time to make and only used up half of the Merry Moments kit

All you have to do to get step-by-step directions for this album is make a $50 purchase HERE from my Stampin' Up website.  After your order is processed, I will send you a PDF file with the supply list, directions, and color photos.

Be back soon with a layout and a couple of cards that I made from the other half of the kit!

3D Pumpkin Tutorial

Happy Election Day!  I'm so excited to be off today (since the schools are used for polling) and to finally get to cast my vote in this election.  Later on today, I'll be glued to the television watching the results come in from all over the USA; however, I have a feeling that this will be a close one and we may not know who wins until much later in the week.

So, while we're waiting, I thought I'd let you know about my tutorial that's up today at the Doodlebug blog.  I'll be showing you how to make the pumpkin on this card.

It is such an easy project, and I just love the dimension.  As one of the other Doodlebug DT girls pointed out, it would be easy to use red paper and turn this into an apple for a teacher card.  I hope you'll check it out HERE.

Have a great day!

Fall Photo Shoot

I am loving this weather.  And scarves.  And all the brown and orange.  And dappled sunlight.  And all these Fall pictures of my family.

Hope your Fall is absolutely fabulous, too!

Fall Fever at The ScrapRoom

Today I thought I'd share the other half of my November ScrapRoom gallery work using Echo Park's Fall Fever.  This paper line is too cute and just perfect for any Fall photos you may want to scrap.

Fall Memories

I used my Cricut Expression and the Simply Scarecrows cartridge to cut out several leaves.  I crumpled them a bit and then layered them around the polaroid die cut that came in the kit.  I also cut out my title. The simplicity of the images on this cartridge really worked for my page.

One Fall Day

I have been waiting for just the right paper to scrapbook these pictures of my kids at the park last Fall.  Even though the blues aren't exactly the same shades, I still thought this paper worked quite well.

This month's Flavors of the Kit is equally as fabulous.  You can check it and the gallery out HERE.  Thanks for stopping by . . . see you soon!

Happy Halloween!

We had ourselves a great time trick or treating!  My oldest was a Mad Scientist.  That wig was . . . well, a bit much.  You can't tell from these photos, but his test tube glowed in the dark.  Too fun!  And my youngest, he was a Jawa.  I wanted some pics with his face in it, so I put some make up on him.  Brown eyeshadow.  He was such a good sport!

I hope you had a great Halloween as well!  See you soon with something scrappy.

On Trend in TSR's November Kit

The new Crate Paper On Trend collection is in The ScrapRoom's November Doubleshot kit.  LOVE it!  Magenta and gray.  Hello Fall.  And absolutely on trend!  Here's what I did with it.

You get a full 12 x 12 sheet of chipboard shapes.  LOVE that!  I had fun sprinkling them all over my layout, and I still have enough left for another project or two.

Bling That Thing Layout

This week, Doodlebug is focusing on using jewels and pearl on cards and layouts.  For my project, I created a Halloween layout using the new Haunted Manor collection and my Cricut.

I used my Theresa Collins' Chic and Scary cartridge to cut this corner spider web and the title.  As for those cute little dangling spiders, those are Doodlebugs' new Mini Pops.  And their eyes are the Halloween Jewels.

I love the Haunted Manor Cardstock Frames Stickers.  The four stickers on the right side of my layout are the insides of the frames.  So fun!

Phew . . . finally finished scrapping last year's Halloween and pumpkin carving pictures.  Just in time to take a whole bunch more.  Hope you're having lots of Fall fun!  See you tomorrow with my ScrapRoom sneak layout.

Harvest Blessings Frame

Since I'm home sick today (darn head cold!), I thought I'd share a project that I made for Cricut Circle last year.  My assignment was to use the Cricut Word Collage cartridge.  I chose the Thanksgiving image and made this rustic frame for my mantel.

And here it is on my mantel mixed in with some foliage, a cool yarn-wrapped letter, a metal lantern, and a cute ceramic owl (Thanks, Jess!).

Hope you have a great day!  I'm going to curl back under the covers and watch some TV.  See you soon.
